Education

Many of our members work together as a team when going out into the community speaking about their injury, how it happened, and how it has effected their life, and their family and friends. We have talked to schools, 4-H groups, nursing students, and many others. By telling our stories we try to convey that just because a person happens to use a wheelchair to get around that we are still the person we were before the chair. If we can reach a few and they remember any of us and our story that they may make the right decision and in doing so not put themselves into a situation that may not be the best for them or those around them. If you would like us to speak with your group or at a school contact us at spinalrap@gmail.com we will work with you to set something up.
Peer Support

We are in the process of reestablishing a network with area hospitals and other facilities so that they may notify us of newly injured patients that want or need to talk with someone who has already been through what they are beginning to go through themselves. We will also talk with family members to help them understand what they may need to know to help a loved one and to understand what they can expect in the coming days and weeks. We try to match the member who goes to talk with them who has a similar injury/disease so it's easier for them to relate to and understand what is going on in the present and in the future. If you know anyone that might benefit from any of our programs please contact us at spinalrap@gmail.com so we can send more detailed information. Cathi has retooled our peer support program and is getting solid ideas from the national organization. Peer Support Flier feel free to pass these out.
Computer Exchange Program

The computer exchange program was designed to help those with disabilities that didn't qualify for help in getting one through the more traditional places such as BVR or RSC. We take slightly older machines that are donated by individuals, small businesses, or even large companies and we set them up so that we can give them to our members free of charge. We are always looking for grants so we can upgrade the computers and software. With the internet many can get outside of their four walls and explore the world and meet new people.
